Dry, itchy skin can be a distressing condition as it is often sensitive and a symptom of another condition (such as ezcema and seborrhoea). This skin type is unbalanced, lacks moisture, is prone to crack or peel and can feel 'tight' after cleansing. The condition is made worse in winter due central heating, low humidity and the cold winds. It is therefore very important to treat the skin with care and a gentle cleansing and moisturising regime.
Never use commercial soap and water. This is much too drying and can encourage very sore skin. Instead, use an all natural oil or cream based cleanser and follow with a balancing toner and rich moisturiser.
If you have extremely dry skin, check with your doctor that you do not have an under-active thyroid or diabetes. Ensure your diet is rich in nutrients (particularly Vitamins A,Bs and E). Do not use mineral based body oils, instead use vegetable based ones for rich, nutritious and balancing moisturisation.
